If your property is in the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) overlap zone, you must also verify burn regulations directly with ODF.

How to Burn Debris Responsibly
Follow these guidelines to reduce wildfire risk and protect your neighbors.
Whenever possible, avoid burning by chipping, composting, or hauling yard debris to a recycling or disposal facility.
Always confirm the daily burn status with the Linn County Burn Line before you light any outdoor fire.
Check the local weather forecast, including wind and humidity, and do not burn on hot, dry, or windy days.
Burn only yard debris such as leaves, branches, and other natural vegetation; never add household or construction waste.
Do not use gasoline, diesel, or other accelerants to start or refresh your fire.
Keep your burn pile small, or use a metal burn barrel equipped with a tight-fitting spark screen.
Clear at least a 15‑foot radius around your burn area down to bare soil and away from trees, shrubs, and overhead vegetation.
Stay with the fire at all times, with a charged garden hose or water source and a shovel ready.
When you are finished, thoroughly soak, stir, and check your burn area to ensure the fire is completely out and cold to the touch.
What You May Never Burn
Oregon DEQ regulations prohibit open burning of certain materials at any time, anywhere in Oregon.
The following are always prohibited from open burning:
Rubber products, including tires
Asbestos-containing materials
Animal remains
Plastic of any kind
Wet garbage or food waste
Petroleum products and petroleum‑treated materials
Asphalt, industrial waste, or similar products
Any material that produces dense smoke or strong, noxious odors
Auto parts and wire insulation
Using items like tires, gasoline, diesel, or similar products to ignite or boost a fire is also prohibited.
To safely start a legal debris burn, keep part of your pile covered so it stays dry, then light it with paper and a match—never with flammable liquids.
